This is the official account deletion page for myigloo.is and the Igloo mobile app, operated by Leiguskjól ehf. (Kt. 510906-1520). Here you will find instructions on how to delete your account, what happens when you do, and what data may be retained for legal and regulatory obligations.
1. How to delete your account
If you are logged in
You can delete your account directly from the Igloo platform. Follow these steps:
- Log in to your account at myigloo.is or in the Igloo mobile app.
- Go to Account settings (accessible from your profile menu).
- Scroll to the Delete account section at the bottom of the page.
- Check the confirmation checkbox to enable the delete button.
- Click Delete account. A confirmation dialog will appear.
- Type Delete in the confirmation field and submit.
Your account will be deactivated immediately upon confirmation.
If you cannot log in
If you are unable to access your account, you can request deletion by contacting our privacy team at personuvernd@leiguskjol.is. Please include your registered email address so we can verify your identity. We will process your request within 30 days.
2. What happens when you delete your account
- Your account is deactivated immediately. You will be logged out automatically and will no longer be able to sign in.
- You will lose access to all data, listings, contracts, messages, and other content associated with your account.
- Any active services tied to your account (such as rental guarantees or contracts) may continue in effect according to their own terms until they expire or are separately terminated.
- Some data may be retained as described in the sections below to comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
3. What data is deleted
When your account is deleted, the following data is removed or made inaccessible:
- Your profile information and personal preferences
- Active login sessions and authentication credentials
- Notification settings and saved searches
- Any draft content or incomplete submissions that are not part of a finalized contract or transaction
4. What data may be retained
Certain data may be retained after account deletion where required by Icelandic law or other applicable regulations. Retained data is not accessible through the platform and is stored solely for compliance purposes. Specifically:
- Financial and accounting records (invoices, payment history, transaction records) — retained for 7 years as required by the Icelandic Accounting Act (lög um bókhald).
- Anti-money laundering (AML) and identity verification (KYC) data — retained for 5 years from the end of the business relationship, as required by Act 140/2018 on Actions Against Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing.
- General business records related to contracts, guarantees, and rental agreements — retained for up to 4 years after the business relationship ends.
- Technical and security logs — retained for 30 days to 2 years for system stability, fraud prevention, and security purposes.

5. Your privacy rights
Under Icelandic data protection law and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:
- Request access to the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
- Request erasure of your data, subject to legal retention requirements
- Object to or restrict certain types of data processing
- Request data portability in a structured, machine-readable format
